ACT requirements for College Apps

Im trying to figure out if I need to take the ACT for my college applications. Anyone know if most schools require it?

The requirement for standardized tests like the ACT varies across different institutions. Some colleges require these scores, while others have adopted a test-optional policy due to the recent disruptions caused by the pandemic. Test-optional means that the ACT (or SAT) is not required but can be submitted.

For instance, for the 2024-2025 application cycle, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Purdue University, Brown University, Yale University, The University of Texas at Austin, and California Institute of Technology will require all applicants to submit an ACT or SAT score, indicating that they have discontinued their test-optional policies.

On the other hand, schools such as Columbia University, Princeton University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, and the University of Chicago continue to be test-optional.

The UC and Cal State schools are test-blind, which means they will not consider ACT (or SAT) scores at all.

Please make sure you confirm from the official website of the colleges you are planning to apply to since their testing policies can change. Confirming their policy will ensure you follow the most current requirements.
