Which colleges are popular among California high schoolers?

Being from California, I'd feel at home if I ended up at a college with a bunch of California kids. Can anyone tell me which colleges tend to have the most students from California?

Definitely, there are quite a number of universities that attract a significant percentage of students from California. Unsurprisingly, many of these are actually located in California themselves. Schools in the University of California (UC) system, such as UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles (UCLA), and UC San Diego are popular choices. Additionally, California State University (CSU) campuses like Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State University also attract many Californian high schoolers. This is largely due to the campuses' strong academic programs and the in-state tuition benefits.

Outside of California, many students from the state tend to go to the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and occasionally the East Coast. In the Pacific Northwest, schools like the University of Oregon and the University of Washington are popular choices for Californians. In the Southwest, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University see a significant number of Californian students.

On the East Coast, a lot of Californians venture to prestigious universities like Harvard, Yale, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), if they are academically competitive. Budding artists and filmmakers often find their way to New York University due to its renowned Tisch School of the Arts.

These trends result from a combination of factors, including prestige, proximity, financial considerations, and academic programs. Still, you should prioritize fit and academic programs over other Californians' choices. It is important to find a school that aligns with your academic interests and goals.
