Summer break activities

Do the majority of college students go home for the summer or stay on campus/in town? Asking as I'm not sure what I'd prefer.

While there's no one-size-fits-all answer to what college students typically do over the summer, it's safe to say that the decisions can be quite varied. The dominant choice often depends on factors such as the individual's academic or career goals, personal situation, and opportunities available to them. The majority of students likely go home for the summer, but a significant percentage also stay on or near campus.

For those who choose to stick around, there are various possibilities such as summer session classes, internships, or even on-campus jobs. It can be a great time to catch up on coursework, lighten future academic load, or gain relevant work experience, particularly if opportunities in your college city that aren’t readily available in your hometown. Additionally, staying close to campus can offer a different social dynamic that can be enriching in its own way; campus is generally quieter and it can be a great time to create closer bonds with friends who also stick around.

On the flip side, students who head home for the summer might do so to save money, spend time with family, work a summer job, or engage in internships near their home city. This can also provide a much-needed break from the intensity of school life, giving you the chance to recharge before the new academic year starts.

So, it really boils down to what will best meet your personal and professional needs. Just make sure you keep your goals in mind and plan for a productive and enjoyable summer break, whether that's on campus, at home, or elsewhere. Hope this helps!
