Acceptance of CLEP credits

Has anyone here used the CLEP program? Do most colleges consider the credits gained through CLEP exams? I'm planning to take a few and want to be sure it'll be worth the effort.

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) can indeed be an excellent tool for earning college credit while still in high school, accelerating your path to graduation or allowing you to take more advanced courses in your major sooner.

However, you're correct in hinting that whether or not a college or university accepts CLEP credits is variable. Some institutions are quite generous in their acceptance of CLEP scores for college credit, while others may not consider them at all.

Many state universities and community colleges widely accept CLEP credits, while highly selective colleges and universities are less likely to accept them. The best way to know for sure whether a particular institution would give you credit for CLEP exams is to check directly with the college admissions office or look at their AP/CLEP credit policy on their website.

One more thing to consider, since CLEP exams cover introductory-level college coursework, they're often used to fulfill general education requirements. This means if you're considering a major that requires extensive specialized coursework, the usefulness of CLEP credits might be reduced.

In conclusion, your efforts towards CLEP exams could indeed be well worth it, depending on the colleges you're targeting and the nature of the major you're considering. Just make sure to research ahead of time!
