ACT or SAT?

Does anyone know if colleges have a preference for ACT or SAT scores? Or are they usually interchangeable in applications?

Colleges in the United States typically do not have a preference for either the SAT or the ACT. Both tests are considered equal measures of your academic aptitude and potential success in college, so you're free to choose the test that you feel best suits your skills and testing style. The SAT tends to focus more heavily on reasoning and problem-solving, while the ACT caters more toward curriculum-based education.

You should also keep in mind that a small number of colleges have gone test-optional or even test-blind due to COVID-19. Test-optional means you can choose whether or not to submit test scores as part of your application. Test-blind, on the other hand, means the college will not consider test scores, even if you submit them. It's best to check the admissions page of each school to confirm their testing policy.

Finally, I would advise you to take a practice SAT and ACT to see which you prefer. You might find one test's format easier to follow or its content better aligned with your academic strengths. Once you decide, you can devote your energy to studying for that specific test instead of spreading your focus between the two.
