How to Get the Most Out of My College Visits

With college applications right around the corner, I'd like to visit a few campuses soon. How can I maximize these visits to help with my decision? What questions should I ask, what should I look out for, etc.? Any advice is much appreciated.

Visiting a college campus gives you a unique opportunity to understand the college's environment, social climate, and facilities, as well as the chance to get specific questions answered. Here are some practical ways you can maximize your campus visits:

1. Schedule an Official Tour: Most colleges offer guided tours, which are typically led by current students. These tours often include academic buildings, dorm rooms, dining halls, recreational facilities, and more.

2. Attend Information Sessions: Many schools host admission-information sessions where you get the chance to hear about application processes, financial aid, academic programs, etc. These are great for getting an overview of all your options and clarifying any uncertainties.

3. Meet with Professors or Attend a Class: If you have a specific major in mind, see if you can meet with a professor in that department or attend a class. Ask about department-specific resources, research opportunities, and the curriculum.

4. Talk to Current Students: During your visit, try to strike up conversations with students you run into.
