Choosing a College Based on Clubs?

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well. I was wondering if you could help me out here. I am currently a junior and looking at colleges in Pennsylvania. I have heard that extracurricular involvement is super crucial, so are there any Pennsylvania colleges known for having a large number of clubs? I would love to attend a school where I could explore a wide range of interests. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Yes, extracurricular involvement is a great way to explore different interests, learn new skills, and engage with your campus community. Many colleges in Pennsylvania offer a wide range of student clubs and organizations, but I would particularly emphasize University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), Penn State University (PSU), and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

UPenn, for example, has a very robust club environment with over 450 student-run organizations. You can find everything from community service clubs, cultural and diversity clubs, to academic and professional organizations. The university also has a club search feature on their student affairs website where you can look for clubs based on your interests.

Similarly, Penn State University is another college with an extensive list of more than 1,000 registered student organizations. They hold an involvement fair at the start of each semester where you can learn about various clubs and organizations.

CMU is also known for a diverse club environment spanning from robotics clubs to drama societies, and has an extensive club directory on their website where you can search for clubs by categories like arts, academic, cultural, and more.

Remember to consider other factors as well when choosing a college, like academic programs, campus culture, and financial aid offerings. But if an active student body with robust opportunities for involvement is high on your list, these Pennsylvania colleges are definitely worth researching more about. Happy college searching!
