Average age of college students

Hello folks, I'm doing some research about college life and demographics. I'm going to college a bit later than most, and I was wondering, what's the average age of a college student?

Hello! The average age of a college student in the United States can vary significantly depending on the type of institution. However, for traditional four-year universities and colleges, the majority of students tend to be in the age range of 18-22.

Nonetheless, it's important to keep in mind that this is just an average and there's a lot of diversity in college demographics. Many people start college later in life, often referred to as "non-traditional students". In fact, data suggest that about 38% of undergraduate students in the U.S. are over the age of 25.

Community colleges and online institutions tend to have a higher average student age due to their flexible class schedules and program offerings, making them more accessible for older students and those balancing work or family commitments.

So, while you may be older than the "average" student at a traditional university, you're definitely not alone. There are plenty of students who start college at an older age for various reasons. These include career changes, gap years, military service, or simply taking time to work and save up before going to college. Colleges and universities tend to have resources and support systems in place for non-traditional students, and it’s always worth reaching out to the school’s support services or office of student life if you have any concerns.
