What's the process to get recognized in high school for scoring the most home runs?

Hey everyone! As an ardent baseball player, my ultimate dream is to set a record for the most home runs in my high school. I'm not too sure how one gets recognized for this though, like is there an official process for recording and verifying these stats? Would this be a significant accomplishment to mention in my college applications?

From a recognition standpoint, the first step would be to make sure your coach is aware of your goal and is keeping accurate stats during the season. Depending on how your school recognizes athletic achievements, there may be a process for formally acknowledging your success. For example, your school might announce such achievements during pep rallies, award nights, or in various student publications. Sometimes schools communicate these achievements to local newspapers or online platforms, giving you wider recognition within your community.

As to your question about college applications - yes, such an accomplishment would definitely add to your application, particularly if you're considering playing baseball in college. While hitting the most home runs in your high school's history might not be considered a Tier 1 or 2 extracurricular, it can still show your dedication, talent, and ability to perform under pressure. It could also potentially fall under one of the categories in the athletic recruitment process if you pursue that avenue.

Even if you're not planning on playing in college, this achievement can be used to exemplify your commitment to an activity outside of academics and can provide a context to discuss personal qualities like determination, perseverance, or leadership in your application essays.

Remember, while such achievements can enhance your application, they won't be the only thing colleges look at during the admissions process. Your academic performance, involvement in community service, leadership roles, and other factors are all taken into account. It's all about providing a well-rounded view of who you are!
