Shockingly valuable college majors?

So, I was looking at the Forbes most valuable college majors list and I'm kind of shook. I mean, what factors make a major 'valuable' anyway - are we talking income potentials? Or is it about job prospects and stability? Plus, how accurate and up-to-date is this sorta ranking? Would love any insights!

Indeed, the "value" of a college major can be multivariable depending on the lens you're looking at it from, the quantifiable factors often considered generally involve potential income, employment rates, and projected job growth in the respective fields, to name a few. These rankings tend to use those metrics to create their list. That being said, it's important to remember that industries fluctuate, as do job markets and demands. Hence, while it can be a nifty tool for assessing the economic prospects of a major, it's by no means a definitive guide.

For example, it's no surprise to see STEM fields dominate such lists since technological advancements and health-related issues are central to our world's development. Therefore, there's a high demand for professionals in these disciplines, typically with decent remuneration. However, majors that might not top these lists—like education, social work, or the arts—still have immense societal value, even if the financial compensation isn't as high.

The importance of this information at an individual level can also hugely vary. For some, the remuneration and job prospects associated with a major play a significant role in their decision. For others, passion for the subject, or the role it plays in a larger career strategy, might trump the "value" aspects defined by these lists.

All this is to say, while such rankings can provide valuable insights into the financial prospects of certain fields, they should just be one of many resources used when considering which major is the best fit for you. After all, what makes a major truly valuable can be quite subjective, depending on your personal goals and aspirations.
