Is art a general education requirement in most colleges?

Always been a more 'math and science' kinda person, not too keen on art classes. I was wondering, is taking some form of art class typically a general education requirement when you head to college? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It really depends on the institution, as each university sets its own general education requirements. However, many colleges do require students to take a course in the humanities or arts as part of their general education curriculum.

The idea behind a general education curriculum is to allow students to explore various fields and to provide a well-rounded educational experience. If the student is attending a liberal arts college, it's likely that an arts or humanities course will be a part of the general education requirements.

However, it's important to note that these classes don't necessarily mean you'll be in a studio painting or sculpting. The requirements can often be satisfied through a variety of courses, like art history, music appreciation, theatre studies, etc. Therefore, even if you're not inclined towards creating art, you might find courses that align with your interests better, such as studying the cultural impact of art or the history of architecture.

The best way to understand what GE requirements you will be expected to fulfill is to look at the curriculum of the colleges you are interested in. Many colleges have a section on their website where you can review the graduation requirements for all students, which includes GE requirements.
