Variety of Majors at Most Colleges

Hey guys, a somewhat random question here. Around how many majors do most colleges typically have to choose from? I can't decide between a smaller or larger school for the variety of majors.

While academic offerings can vary widely depending on the institution, on average, most colleges offer around 40-60 undergraduate majors. However, this value can be considerably higher or lower depending on the school's size, focus, and resources.

At larger universities, you'll often see 100+ majors because they have the size and faculty to cover a wider range of academic interests. Examples include the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan, both of which offer over 170 undergraduate majors. This can be a great asset if you're undecided or have interdisciplinary interests, as you'll have many paths to explore.

Meanwhile, small to medium-sized colleges, including many liberal arts colleges, usually offer a smaller number of majors, frequently in the range of 30-50. However, this doesn't necessarily limit your options. These schools emphasize a breadth of knowledge and the flexibility to design your own courses of study, so students can often combine or customize majors to suit their interests.

Remember, however, the number of majors isn't the only factor to consider. It's also crucial to look at the quality of the programs you're interested in, faculty strength, research opportunities, and internships available. Think about what best aligns with your career goals and academic needs.
