What Areas Does The FBI Recruit From The Most?

Hey everyone! I've been considering a career in law enforcement or intelligence and I'm curious about the FBI. Do they prefer recruits from certain colleges or specific majors? If so, why? Any advice on how to increase my chances of being noticed by them?

The FBI recruits from a variety of backgrounds, as diversity—in terms of specialties, skill sets, and perspectives—is key to its mission. That said, they do actively seek out applicants with certain specialized skill sets or from particular educational backgrounds.

There are some majors that are considered more favorable due to the agency's operational areas. A degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field would be particularly useful given the FBI's role in law enforcement.

However, it's not just about criminal justice. The FBI is a large agency with many different divisions that require a broad range of expertise. For example, if you're interested in tackling cybercrime, a major in Computer Science or Cybersecurity could be beneficial. Likewise, International Relations would be a beneficial major if you're interested in counterterrorism operations.

Furthermore, the FBI also has a strong focus on languages and often looks for applicants fluent in high-need languages (such as Arabic, Russian, Chinese, etc.). Therefore, majoring in or demonstrating proficiency in these languages can be beneficial.

In terms of college preference, the FBI does not have a list of preferred colleges. They hire from a diverse range of institutions including community colleges, state universities, private universities, etc. What matters more is what you study and how well you do.

To increase your chances of being noticed by the FBI, look for internships and other opportunities that help you gain relevant experience. The FBI has several internship programs that could be useful. Furthermore, stay out of legal trouble, maintain a good GPA, and aim to develop relevant skills in your chosen major. Also, consider serving in the military or gaining work experience in a related field.

Finally, make sure to keep fit and healthy, as there are physical fitness standards for most law enforcement agencies, including the FBI. Good luck with your aspirations!
