There are quite a few high schools across the United States that have achieved fame due to their rigorous academic programs, high-profile alumni, high college placement rates, or standout athletic programs. Below are few examples with the attributes that make them noteworthy:

1. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST): Located in Alexandria, Virginia, this public magnet school is often ranked as the number one high school in the nation due to its challenging STEM-focused curriculum and successful college placement rates.

2. Phillips Academy Andover (often known as Andover): A private, coeducational boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts that's known for its rigorous curriculum, broad array of extracurricular opportunities, and notable alumni that include two U.S. presidents.

3. Stuyvesant High School: Situated in Lower Manhattan, New York, Stuyvesant is a public magnet school known for its emphasis on math and science, difficult entrance exam, and a strong legacy of successful graduates in various fields.

4. Whitney High School: Located in Cerritos, California, Whitney is known for its rigorous entrance exam and for being one of the top-ranked public high schools in the nation.

5. Bronx High School of Science: This NYC-based public school produces a significant number of Nobel laureates and leaders in STEM fields, largely due to its intensive focus on science, technology, engineering, and math.

6. The Juilliard School (Prep Division): Though The Juilliard School is best known for its college-level conservatory programs, its preparatory division in NYC offers a renowned arts education to pre-college students, highly respected in the fields of music, dance, and drama.

7. IMG Academy: In Bradenton, Florida, this private boarding school is famous for a different reason - it's where many top athletes across various sports go to train during their high school years.

Each of the above schools has a distinct approach to education and particular strengths, making them famous in their own right.
