Deciding on the best HBCU to attend, any suggestions?

Junior here, and I've been doing a ton of research on HBCUs because I really want that specific college experience. However, I'm getting a little overwhelmed by all the options. For those of you who went to or know about HBCUs, could you give me some advice on how to decide which HBCU might be the best fit for me? I'm curious about campus life, academic opportunities, and the overall environment.

Hi there! I totally understand that feeling of being overwhelmed – my son was in the same boat last year. When he was researching, we found it helpful to first nail down what he wanted to study, as some HBCUs have stronger programs in certain fields. If you have an intended major, start there. Research faculty, department achievements, and curriculum.

Then, think about the size and location of the school. Does a small, close-knit community appeal to you, or would you thrive in a larger university setting? My son chose an HBCU with a small, but fantastic, engineering program and he loves the family-like atmosphere.

It's also worth reaching out to current students or alumni to get their take on campus life – social media and college forums are great for this. And lastly, visit! An on-campus experience can sometimes make all the difference in feeling out the vibe of the place. College fairs are also a great place to gather information and get a feel for what different schools can offer.

Best of luck in making your decision – I'm sure you’ll find the perfect HBCU for you!
