Masters Degree Availability Across Colleges

Hey guys, I'm a junior sort of overwhelmed by the whole college search process right now. So, I was wondering, does the majority of colleges offer Masters degree programs? I figure if they offer undergraduate studies, they should provide graduate ones too, right? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It's understandable why you would think that about Master's degree programs. However, it's not always the case that an institution that offers Bachelor's degrees will also offer Master's degrees.

Just to give you some context, colleges can vary significantly in the scope and breadth of their course offerings. For instance, some smaller colleges, often known as "liberal arts colleges," focus on undergraduate education with an emphasis on a broad-based, holistic learning experience. These institutions typically don't offer graduate programs.

On the other hand, "universities" are generally larger institutions that offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including Master's and Doctoral programs. This includes institutions like private research universities and public state universities.

Remember that if you're planning on attaining a Master's degree, it's not required that you complete both your Bachelor's and Master's at the same institution. It's normal and quite common for students to perform their undergraduate studies at one institution and then move to a different university for their graduate studies.

In your college search, consider what institution and program work best for your undergraduate goals right now. You can always transition to a school that offers a strong Master's program in your field of interest later.

I hope that gives you a bit of clarity! Happy college hunting!
