Curious about popular college majors. Suggestions?

Hey everyone, I'm in the process of deciding on a major and I'm kind of at a loss. Do any of you know which college majors are chosen most often? Would that make them more competitive? Thanks in advance.

Sure, I'd be happy to shed some light on this! Nationally, some of the most popular college majors are Business Administration and Management, Psychology, Nursing, Biology, and Computer Science. These fields are popular due to the wide range of opportunities they provide post-graduation.

As for competitiveness, popular majors can indeed be more competitive due to the higher number of students vying for admission. However, the degree of competitiveness can differ widely based on the individual school. For instance, Computer Science is extremely competitive at a school known for its strong STEM programs, like MIT or Stanford. Conversely, at a school known for humanities, like Dartmouth, the competition might not be as stiff.

However, you should also consider areas that you are passionate about and excel in. Choosing a major purely based on its popularity or perceived job prospects might not always yield the most fulfilling academic experience. Instead, consider what subjects you're genuinely interested in. Then, investigate what types of careers those interests could lead to. Then check out the college or university's reputation and resources in those areas.

The key is to strike a balance between choosing a major you'll enjoy and one that will give you the skills and knowledge needed to pursue your career goals after graduation. Good luck with your decision!
