Foreign Language Requirement

Hey there, peeps, got a question that's been plaguing me. Do most colleges require you to have taken at least 2 years of a foreign language in high school? Grateful for any insight on this!

Hey! This can actually vary quite a bit from college to college. Many colleges do recommend or require foreign language study.

Take for instance, the University of Washington. There, it is required to have minimum two years of the same foreign language for admission. But it's always safer to have three or four years under your belt. That will make your application more competitive, especially at more selective schools.

Some colleges, like most of the California State Universities, do not explicitly require high school foreign language classes for admission, but they recommend them because they expect students to complete a foreign language credit before graduation.

A few schools, like MIT, don't require foreign language classes at all. But they still look for strong rigor and breadth from your overall course schedule.

Remember to check each school's individual requirements. You can always call or email their admissions office if you can't find the info you need online! So chill, and remember each college has its own unique set of admission requirements that may or may not include foreign language study. Good luck!
