Most eccentric colleges — Any suggestions?

Hey, peeps! I'm in my junior year and beginning the college search, and I want a school with some personality. I love the unconventional and the quirky. Could anyone suggest some eccentric colleges? Thanks a lot in advance!

Certainly! It's great to look for a college environment that vibes with your personality and preferences. Here are some potential options to investigate:

1. Reed College (Portland, OR): Known for its academic rigor, Reed also fosters a strong culture of individualism. From Renaissance dances to the "Paideia" week of non-credit courses taught by anyone on anything they want, Reed is sure to provide an eccentric and unique environment.

2. St. John's College (Annapolis, MD and Santa Fe, NM): This college follows the Great Books curriculum where students study classic works of Western civilization instead of conventional textbooks.

3. College of the Atlantic (Bar Harbor, ME): This environmentally focused school offers only one major—"Human Ecology"—which students can design according to their specific interests. Students, staff, and teachers also participate together in a weekly “All College Meeting” where college matters are discussed.

4. Hampshire College (Amherst, MA): Hampshire is known for its alternative curriculum. Here, students can design their own program of study and are evaluated through narratives instead of traditional grades.

5. Deep Springs College (Deep Springs, CA): This is a two-year college where students also work to run the ranch and farm on campus. About 13 students are admitted each year!

Remember to research these options thoroughly, to find out which college might have that combination of eccentricity and academic offering that you're looking for. Do not hesitate to reach out to current students, if possible, to get a real sense of campus life. Good luck with your applications!
