Best methods for note-taking during a college lecture?

I've heard college lectures can be quite challenging to keep up with, especially when you have to take notes simultaneously. What's the most effective way you guys have found to take notes during a college lecture?

Trying to jot everything down during a lecture can indeed be a daunting task. Different methods work for different people, but here are three approaches that many have found to be particularly useful:

1. The Cornell Method: This note-taking system encourages organization and review. Divide your paper into two columns: On the right, you make notes during the lecture; on the left, you write keyword cues or questions after the class. At the end of the page, you summarize the main points. This structure prompts you to actively engage with the material both during and after the lecture. It also makes it easier to review your notes later on.

2. Typing: If you're a fast typist, taking notes on a laptop or tablet may be an effective method. Digital notes can be easily organized and searched, and the typing speed might allow you to keep pace with the lecturer. Just remember to remain engaged with the lecture and not get distracted by the device.

3. Sketchnotes: This is a more visual approach where you use diagrams, symbols and drawings to capture ideas. This method might suit you if you're a visual learner. It helps in remembering concepts coming from complex topics by attaching a visual recall to them.

Regardless of what method you choose, remember to note down the key concepts rather than trying to transcribe everything verbatim. Summarize main ideas and take note of examples that illustrate those points. Remember, effective note-taking is about quality, not quantity.
