Looking for Green Campuses: Which colleges have the most environmentally friendly campuses?

Hey everyone! I'm really passionate about sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. I've been trying to find colleges that share these values. Can anyone give me a rundown of some colleges that are known for having the most environmentally friendly campuses?

Absolutely, it's indeed commendable that you want to align your passion for sustainability with the choice of your college. Sustainability is a pressing issue, and several colleges have stepped up to make sustainability a significant part of their agenda.

One institution that comes to mind is Stanford University. They've put a lot of effort into creating a sustainable campus, including building the Central Energy Facility, which significantly reduces the university's greenhouse gas emissions and water usage.

UC Davis also has a solid reputation for environmental sustainability. It's known for its efforts in water and energy conservation, waste management, local and organic food sourcing, and promoting alternative transportation to reduce carbon emissions.

Another college that stands out significantly in this area is the Colorado State University. The institution has a vast percentage of its campus dedicated to green space; not to mention, it is the first university to achieve Platinum status under the STARS rating system (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System), which evaluates colleges based on their sustainability performance.

Middlebury College in Vermont is another standout - they committed to carbon neutrality in 2016 and have been leaders in sustainability ever since. Their biomass gas system is a key component to their success.

Sustainability has also been consistently and actively pursued by the University of Washington, with multiple green-certified buildings and a composting program that diverts tons of food from the landfill.

These are just a few examples among many. Other commendable mentions also include University of California, Santa Barbara, Dickinson College, and Lewis & Clark College. Each of these colleges has made sustainability a core part of their mission. Be sure to further research these schools (and others) to find a campus that not only shared your values, but also offers a strong program in your area of academic interest.
