What are the Essentials for College Life?

Hope everyone's well. I'm a junior starting to plan for college life and I'm jotting down things I'll probably need. Besides the obvious stuff like textbooks and laptops, what are some essential items you can't imagine surviving college without? Tangible stuff, of course, but also tips, services, etc would be helpful!

Hello there! Preparations for this new phase of your life can indeed be exhilarating. Apart from personal items, there are several essentials that can make your college life smoother and more enjoyable:

Living Essentials: Dorm rooms can be quite minimalist, so you'll want to create a comfortable living environment. This can include anything from bedding, a portable fan, laundry hamper, mini fridge, a few sets of towels, and utensils if you plan on eating in your room. Earplugs and an eye mask can also be lifesavers for those nights when your roommate is studying late or has an early morning class.

Academic Tools: Besides the usual stationery and backpack, consider a planner or digital calendar to help you track assignments and exam dates. You may also want a study light or desk lamp for late-night cramming.

Health and Wellbeing: A basic first-aid kit, any prescriptions, and over-the-counter medications (pain relievers, cold and allergy meds) are important to have on hand. Include a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated, and healthy snacks for late-night study sessions. A white noise machine or app can help ensure quality sleep as well.

Community Connections: Check out your college's student support services for academic help, mental health resources, and career counseling. They're there to help, so don't hesitate to make use of them.

Finally, consider the following non-tangible tips: networking is crucial. Join clubs, professional societies, sports teams, or other student groups to meet new people and develop relationships. It's also essential to strike a work-life balance - take time to relax and destress. This can be as simple as taking a walk, reading a book for pleasure, or exploring your new college town/city. Prioritize your wellbeing while you are also focusing on your academics.

Enjoy this exciting chapter of your life!
