Most selective colleges in Europe?

I'm considering studying in Europe for university, but I'm not sure where to start with the admissions process. Could I get some info on which colleges in Europe are notoriously hard to get into?

Absolutely, there are several highly selective universities in Europe that are renowned globally. I'll list some top ones from different regions:

1. United Kingdom: The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are well-known for their stringent admission procedures. They have an acceptance rate of around 15% to 20%, depending on the subject and college.

2. Switzerland: ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne are renowned for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses, especially in Engineering and Computer Science. Their admission process can be quite competitive as well, especially for the highly sought-after courses.

3. France: École Normale Supérieure (ENS) and HEC Paris are extremely competitive. ENS is known for sciences and humanities while HEC Paris is renowned for business and management courses.

4. The Netherlands: Delft University of Technology and the University of Amsterdam are some of the top institutions and can be fairly selective, particularly for programs in English.

5. Germany: The Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Ludwig Maximillian University of Munich (LMU) have a competitive admission process, especially for fields like Engineering and Natural Sciences.

One key thing to bear in mind is that the admissions process can vary widely by country and even by institution within the same country. Unlike the U.S., where there's a centralized application system (Common App, Coalition App, etc), in Europe, it's less uniform. You will need to apply to each university or program independently, following their unique process and meeting their specific requirements. This can include language proficiency tests, specific course prerequisites, and even entrance exams in some cases.
