Most Iconic College Architecture?

Totally out of curiosity, what are some of the most famous college buildings around, like architecturally iconic? What schools do they belong to? Would be cool to visit some when I tour colleges.

There's definitely a wealth of architectural treasures dotted throughout various college campuses across the nation! Here are some that immediately come to mind:

1. Yale University - Sterling Memorial Library: This library is a classic example of the Collegiate Gothic style. Sterling Memorial looks more like a cathedral than a library, with its massive nave, and its carved stone and woodwork are eye-catching.

2. University of Virginia - The Rotunda: It was designed by Thomas Jefferson and is based on the Pantheon in Rome. It's a great example of Jeffersonian architecture and is considered a National Historic Landmark.

3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Stata Center: The building is part of the MIT campus and is a striking example of Deconstructivist architecture designed by Frank Gehry. This building is sure to turn heads with its funky, non-rectilinear façade.

4. University of Chicago - Robie House: This is not a university building per se but is located on the campus of the university. This house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is a prime example of his Prairie School architectural style and is a National Historic Landmark.

5. University of California, San Diego - Geisel Library: Named after Theodor Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss), this library is a unique example of brutalist architecture.

These are just a few of the countless examples you might consider exploring! Many of these structures are open to the public, and others can often be seen on guided campus tours. It's fascinating how architecture can communicate so much about an institution's history and values. Happy touring!
