What are some of the most flexible colleges when it comes to academic programs?

So, I am a junior right now and I just don't want to feel trapped in a major I select before even starting college. Are there any colleges known for being particularly flexible with their academic programs?

Absolutely! You're definitely not alone in wanting to explore different fields of study before settling on a major. Here are a few colleges that are known for having highly flexible academic programs:

1. Brown University: Brown has an open curriculum, meaning there are virtually no general education requirements. Students are left to pick and choose the courses they wish to take, providing a great deal of academic freedom.

2. Evergreen State College: At Evergreen, students create their own programs of study. There are no formal majors, departments, or general education requirements. Instead, students work with faculty to determine the content of their learning.

3. New York University (NYU): At NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, students have the opportunity to create their own interdisciplinary program that combines courses from various NYU departments and schools.

4. Amherst College: At Amherst, there are no required courses outside your major, which gives students an incredible amount of flexibility in choosing the courses that align with their interests and career goals.

5. University of Michigan: The Residential College within the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts allows students to create an individualized curriculum, mixing different academic disciplines.

These five colleges are just a start - many liberal arts colleges, in general, provide a broad-based education and allow flexibility in terms of choosing and changing majors. It's also worth mentioning that most colleges allow students to change their major, so don't feel too stressed about picking the "perfect" major right off the bat. The most important thing is finding a place where you can explore and grow.
