What are the most Africa-friendly colleges in the US?

As an African student aiming to study in the US, I've been curious about the representation and acceptance rates of African students in different colleges. Are there any colleges or universities that are particularly welcoming to African students and have strong African student communities? Would appreciate any insight!

Certainly, there are several colleges and universities renowned for being welcoming and supportive to African students. This support often takes the form of strong international student offices, funding opportunities, and diverse student organizations.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for instance, has the MIT Africa program, which fosters relationships between MIT and African countries through education and research. They also have African student organizations such as the African Students' Association aimed at sharing African cultures, traditions, and issues.

Yale University is also noteworthy. It has the Yale Africa Initiative, an effort to prioritize and expand upon Yale’s collaborations with institutions on the African continent. It's aimed at strengthening teaching about Africa in Yale’s curriculum and developing partnerships in health, education, governance, and economic development.

Additionally, the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), with its African Studies Center, actively encourages Africa-related discourse and learning. UPenn also has quite a few student groups devoted to various African countries, which can offer a strong sense of community.

Moreover, Howard University, a historically Black university, has a section of its curriculum specifically tailored to African diaspora studies. There are also plenty of African student organizations to join.

However, please remember that feeling welcomed depends not just on large university initiatives, but also on the smaller, everyday interactions and experiences. As such, the best way to ascertain whether an institution is 'Africa-friendly' would be to reach out directly to African students who are currently studying or have studied there in the past.
