Priciest Cali Schools?

Hi everyone, I'm a Cali native and looking to stay in-state for college. I know we have some prestigious, but pretty pricey colleges. Can anyone tell me what the most expensive colleges in California are? Just trying to keep my financial plans realistic. Thanks!

There are indeed several California schools that have higher-than-average pricing, even for in-state students. This is particularly true among private universities.

One of the priciest private schools in California is Stanford University. While its sticker price may be high, Stanford has a generous financial aid policy. Families with an annual income below $150,000 and typical assets won't have to pay tuition.

The University of Southern California (USC) is also on the higher end. It’s a private institution, and tuition is upwards of $69,904.

Another example is the Claremont Colleges, which includes Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps. Each of these institutions commands a high tuition fee. Over at Harvey Mudd, one of the most expensive liberal arts colleges in the country, the tuition cost rises above $67,000.

Now, despite these high sticker prices, it’s worth noting that financial aid packages can significantly offset these expenses, depending on your family's income and assets. As an in-state student, though, if affordability is a priority, the University of California system offers a solid balance between cost and quality education. Fees for in-state students are substantially less expensive, and there are nine campuses to choose from, including UC Berkeley and UCLA.

All things considered, you must use the Net Price Calculator on every school's website to understand what the college might cost you, after considering your family's financial situation and any potential aid. This way, you can get a more accurate picture of your financial planning. Remember that the sticker price often isn't what you'll end up paying!
