Oxford Colleges: Which ones stand out?

I'm just a curious junior entertaining the thought of applying to college abroad. When it comes to Oxford, what are its most famous colleges and why do they stand out so much? Any ideas?

Oxford University is made up of 39 different colleges and halls, each with its unique history and character. Here are a few that stand out due to their fame, history, or unique aspects:

1. Christ Church: This is one of Oxford's largest colleges and is famous not only because Lewis Carroll, who wrote Alice in Wonderland, was a student there, but also because its dining hall was used as a filming location for the Harry Potter movies.

2. Balliol College: Known for its high academic standards, Balliol has produced numerous notable alumni including three former British Prime Ministers.

3. Magdalen College: It features stunning architecture and extensive grounds and gardens, home to a large deer park. Also, is known for its traditional May Day morning choir.

4. St. John's College: Famous for its wealth, St John's boasts beautiful gardens and notable alumni such as Tony Blair.

5. Merton College: Known for being the oldest Oxford college, its beautiful grounds include a medieval library which is one of the oldest functioning libraries for university academics and students in the world.

6. Pembroke College: Known for being the home of the first batch of female undergraduates in Oxford in 1979.

However, it's crucial to remember that the 'best' college can vary greatly depending on the individual's aspirations, the course they plan to study, and the environment they thrive in. Therefore, while these colleges may be famous for various reasons, it doesn't necessarily mean they're the best choice for every student. Research, visits, and even speaking to current students or alumni are great ways to get a solid understanding of what each college can offer.
