Most expensive colleges for performing arts, are they worth it?

I'm really passionate about performing arts and want to pursue it in college. I've heard that some of the top performing arts schools are also really expensive. Any idea which ones they are? And do you think the cost is justified by the quality of their programs?

There's no doubt that pursuing performing arts at a college level is indeed costly due to the infrastructure and specialized faculty required for these programs. Some of the more expensive universities known for their excellent performing arts programs include Juilliard School, Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). These schools have outstanding reputations and have produced many successful graduates in the performing arts field.

The justification of the high cost against the quality of these programs is a subjective matter. It's important to remember that each school has its distinctive strengths and program offerings. For instance, if you're interested in dance, Juilliard is renowned for its dance program. Similarly, Tisch excels in drama and film studies, and CalArts is known for being innovative and interdisciplinary.

Two elements many students consider are faculty and networking opportunities. These institutions often have acclaimed professors and an extensive list of successful alumni, which could potentially offer future opportunities and connections. The exposure, hands-on experience, mentorship, and training quality they offer can be hard to match.

However, the cost of education should be evaluated with pragmatism. Consider your financial situation, potential scholarships/grants, and the amount of student debt you might take on. Another important factor is your dedication to the performing arts field, as it’s often challenging and competitive.

Also, there are other universities and conservatories that offer strong performing arts programs at a less prohibitive cost. These might not be as famous as Juilliard or Tisch, but they can still provide an excellent foundation and resources in the performing arts.
