I'm pretty excited but slightly intimidated to start college next academic year. From tight deadlines, course selection, dorm life, balancing work with leisure—what are some of the most frustrating experiences you've faced whilst being in college?
From a current college student's perspective, managing time can be one of the more challenging aspects of college life. You're suddenly given a lot of personal freedom but with great responsibility. For example, some courses might only have lectures a couple times a week, creating the illusion of a light load, but behind these can be extensive reading lists and assignments. It's easy to procrastinate and then get overwhelmed when deadlines start piling up.
Additionally, many students find course registration to be stressful, especially if it's your first time doing it. It can be frustrating when you’ve planned your entire schedule, and then you find out the courses you need aren't available or are at conflicting times, leaving you scrambling to figure out an alternative.
Lastly, living in a shared space if you're in a dorm can bring unexpected challenges—like a noisy roommate who studies late into the night, or not having control over keeping the shared areas clean and organized. It's a learning curve to navigate these issues while maintaining a positive communal living atmosphere.
As you transition into college, remember to seek out resources like academic advisors and peer counselors who can provide guidance to help reduce these frustrations.
