Colleges with High LGBTQ+ Populations?

Hey guys, I'm just thinking, it would be nice to be part of a larger LGBTQ+ community in college. Do you know of any colleges that have a pretty significant gay population?

Absolutely, you're wise to want to find a supportive community for the next steps of your journey. There are a number of universities in the U.S. that not only pride themselves on having a significant LGBTQ+ student population but also make great strides in ensuring their campus is inclusive and supportive.

1. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA): UCLA has long been a beacon of diversity and inclusivity. The school's LGBTQ Campus Resource Center has been serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and allies' community at UCLA for well over 20 years.

2. Rutgers University: Rutgers is home to the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities (SJE), which is an invaluable resource for students. The university is also recognized for offering gender-inclusive housing.

3. University of Maryland, College Park: They have well-established programs like the Rainbow Terps program and the Lambda Pride scholarship that can be quite attractive to prospective LGBTQ+ students.

4. University of Massachusetts, Amherst: UMass Amherst is great in providing gender-inclusive housing, gender-inclusive restrooms, and resources for trans students.

5. University of Toronto: For international options, University of Toronto's Sexual & Gender Diversity Office proudly supports students who identify within the community. The school also has a positive space campaign that constantly works on creating an inclusive and affirming campus environment.

Most universities now have LGBTQ+ resource centers and are making efforts to be more inclusive and supportive to all students, so it's really about finding the right fit for you personally. It's also worth noting that larger cities tend to have bigger LGBTQ+ populations and therefore, schools located in major cities might allow you to engage with larger LGBTQ+ communities outside of the university as well. Best of luck!
