Colleges with Greater Gender Inequality?

Just out of curiosity, are there any colleges known for greater gender inequality? I would like to know not so I can apply there, but just so I can stay clear of those.

Sure, it's good to be informed about the overall gender dynamics of institutions while applying. The majority of prominent colleges and universities in the United States strive to promote gender equity, but there might still exist some challenges in achieving this.

In terms of student enrollment proportions, different colleges can have distinct gender ratios. For example, colleges focused on traditionally male-dominated fields like certain engineering or tech institutions may have more male students, while liberal arts colleges could sometimes skew more female. Notable examples include Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) or California Institute of Technology (Caltech) that lean more male, and Sarah Lawrence College or Simmons University that lean more female.

There's also the question of gender dynamics in terms of faculty representation, pay equity, and leadership positions. The American Association of University Professors annually releases data on salary equity, showing that fewer women reach the level of full professor, and women's salaries at the same rank tend to be lower relative to men. In terms of leadership, according to an ACES report, only about one-third of U.S. college presidents are women.

Keep in mind though; a skew in numbers does not necessarily imply an environment of gender inequality. Key indicators of a school’s commitment to disparity issues include its policies about gender discrimination and sexual misconduct, the resources it provides to underrepresented groups, and faculty and administrators' attitudes towards these matters. Generally, universities and collegial platforms openly publish their gender ratios in student bodies and faculties, so you should be able to research specific schools to get a better idea. As with any institutional decision, it's crucial you do your research to find an environment aligning with your values.
