Handicap accessible colleges: who's leading the way?

I've got a physical disability and I'm starting to look at colleges. I was wondering if any of you knew which colleges are known for being the most handicap accessible? I'll need to consider accessibility in my decision-making process.

Your comfort and ease of access are crucial while studying in college. Many universities have been proactive in ensuring their campuses are handicap accessible, and I’m here to highlight a few.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is one university that's often recognized for its efforts in this area. They introduced the first wheelchair-accessible fixed-route bus system. The campus also features adapted sports programs and a disability resources and educational services (DRES) program which offers a range of support services.

Edinboro University in Pennsylvania also stands out. They provide an office dedicated to supporting students with disabilities. The campus is designed with ramps, electronic door openers, and designated parking.

The University of Arizona also merits mention due to its Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques (SALT) Center, which offers comprehensive academic support services to students with learning and attention challenges.

University of California, Berkeley, offers a range of accessibility services including priority registration, assistive technology, and note-taking.

Michigan State University has a Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) that assists in making their campus accessible. They offer resources like assistive technology, housing accommodations, and even accessible transportation around the campus.

Again, this is just a starting point. It's best to contact the disability support services office at any potential college you're considering to make sure they can meet your specific needs.
