What are the most popular colleges in the US?

Greetings friends! I'm a junior starting the college search process. I'm curious about what are some of the most popular colleges across the entire United States, not just regionally. Is there any source or list to check out that shows the trending or most popular colleges based on student applications? Any pointers would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hello there! It's great to start your college search early. If we talk in terms of the sheer volume of applications received, some of the most popular universities in recent years have included the University of California system (especially UCLA and UC Berkeley), NYU, and the University of Southern California among others.

When it comes to private institutions, Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Yale, and Columbia also see a high volume of applicants. However, these colleges are extremely selective, so remember that their popularity in applications doesn't mean they are easily accessible. Other non-Ivy but highly popular schools include Stanford, MIT, and Duke, to name a few.

It's important to note that the popularity of a college doesn't necessarily correlate with its quality or fit for you as an individual. The "best" college is one that meets your academic needs, aligns with your career interests, offers an environment where you can grow as a person, and is financially feasible for you and your family. So, while all these universities receive a large volume of applications making them "popular," it would be more beneficial for you to focus on finding schools that would be a good fit for you personally.

Lastly, keep in mind that every year, the list of the most applied-to schools can change a bit based on various factors, including tuition costs, school performance, and even current events. There is no definitive source that tracks all applications globally, but you can generally get a sense of which colleges are popular by looking at their application numbers posted on their websites or using tools like CollegeVine's school search feature, where you can compare acceptance rates, test averages, cost and more. Good luck with your college search process!
