The Great Literary Debate: Which Colleges Shine?

Hey, I have this passion for literature and I hope to continue this in college. Do you guys have any suggestions for colleges that are particularly strong in their Literature programs? Someplace where I’d find lots of fellow bookworms and active literature circles?

Sure thing! First off, it's wonderful that you're looking to pursue your passion for literature. Several schools have particularly excellent Literature programs and have students who are actively engaged in the field. Here are a few for you to consider:

Columbia University in New York has a well-renowned English and Literature program. Their focus on Core Curriculum means that all students read a list of classic works, guaranteeing a vibrant community of literary enthusiasts on campus.

The University of California, Berkeley also has an exceptional English department with a robust selection of literature classes. Berkeley also hosts multiple literature clubs and organizations - including the Berkeley Fiction Review and The English Undergraduate Association, providing more avenues to engage with your subject interest outside of regular classes.

Another strong candidate is the University of Virginia. Their English department is one of the oldest and most respected in the country. They also host the "Page Barbour Lecture" series, which draws writers, scholars, and intellectuals across disciplines.

Lastly, consider the University of Chicago. Their English and Literature program encourages a great deal of critical and analytical thinking. The school also hosts the Chicago Review and numerous literature workshops.

Remember, when finding the right fit, it's crucial also to consider additional factors like location, size, and culture, alongside the strength of the Literature program. It can also be beneficial to contact these schools directly to learn more about opportunities for literature enthusiasts on campus. Best of luck in your college search!
