What are considered the most miserable college majors?

Hey everyone, just curious here, what are some of the majors that are considered the most challenging or 'miserable'? I'm not necessarily trying to avoid difficulty, but I'd like to know what I might be walking into if I choose a more constrained major.

It's important to note that what counts as a "miserable" major can vary greatly from one individual to another, largely due to personal strengths, interests, and career goals. What may be challenging for one person might be invigorating for another. That said, several majors are often mentioned as particularly challenging due to their rigorous coursework, extensive time commitments, and high expectations:

1. Engineering: This encompasses many demanding fields such as chemical, electrical, civil, and aerospace engineering. The coursework tends to be heavily math and science-intensive, with a lot of projects and lab work. The volume of work and the level of detail required can make this major challenging for many students.

2. Pre-Med/Sciences (such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics): These majors require a lot of memorization and understanding of complex concepts. In addition, pre-med students also have to prepare for the MCAT, shadow doctors, and gain clinical experience, all of which make this a demanding pathway.

3. Mathematics: This major requires a solid foundation in abstract thinking and logical reasoning. It can get highly theoretical, and the difficulty of the problems can be quite intense.

4. Architecture: This is often considered one of the most time-consuming majors. Many students find the workload for design projects to be quite heavy, and the expectation to constantly produce creative work can be stressful.

Again, bear in mind that this is a generalized interpretation. The intensity can often vary on the individual's aptitude for the field, the level of support from the college, and the resources available. My suggestion would be to reach out to fellow students, professors, or professionals in your field of interest to gauge what the educational and career path entails. This should help give you a greater insight and set more realistic expectations. One man's misery can be another's passion!
