What are the most essential supplies for a college student?

Hiya! I’ve started preparing for college early and have been thinking a lot about what I might need. From personal experiences or friends, what are the most needed supplies for a college student that I should think about buying?

As exciting as it is to start your college journey, planning and shopping for college requires a level of precision. It's a balance between buying items you'll need without overwhelming your (likely small) space. I'll share a list to consider.

First off, let's consider academic supplies. You'll generally need a sturdy backpack, notebooks or binders for class notes, pens, pencils, highlighters, and perhaps index cards for study purposes. Let's not forget a reliable laptop or tablet for online research and writing essays. If your major requires special supplies like a graphing calculator, lab coat or art supplies, don't forget those.

Let’s talk tech. Ensure you have all necessary chargers for your devices, headphones for studying in public spaces, and a printer is often easier than relying on the campus resources. USB flash drives can also come in handy.

In terms of room supplies, useful items include bed sheets (usually twin XL for dorm beds), pillows, a comforter, towels, a laundry basket, hangers, a bedside lamp, and some basic first-aid items. Note that some students find a small fan and portable heater useful depending on the climate of the school.

Let's not forget kitchen and bathroom items. Consider cutlery, cups, plates, bowls, a microwave safe dish and mug. An electric kettle or coffee maker can be life-savers for late-night study sessions. Depending on whether or not you have a communal bathroom, you might need a shower caddy to carry your toiletries.

Lastly, even though you're heading to college to study, remember that college is also for making wonderful memories. So, think about things that will make your room feel like home - some favorite photos, posters, or small decorations.
