Funniest or Most Outrageous College Mascots?

Hey folks, just decided to take a little break from my junior year stress. What are the most outrageous or downright funny college mascots you've heard of?

From my research, there are some amusing mascots out there!

1. UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs: This one takes the cake for the sheer shock value. It is an unusual choice since slugs aren't particularly athletic or intimidating. However, it has gained a bit of notoriety over the years and started as a student rebellion against proposed "more conventional" mascots.

2. Stanford Tree: The Tree is the mascot of Stanford’s band, but it's popularly associated with Stanford sports due to its exuberant presence. The Tree is known for its different design each year as the person who wins the role of the mascot gets to redesign it!

3. Evergreen State College Geoducks: On the face of it, a clam might not spark fear in the heart of rivals but the Geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck) is so unusual that it captivates the attention. The Geoduck is a native species of clam in the Pacific Northwest, and it's also larger than your average bivalve!

4. Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichoke: This mascot came about because the student body wanted to protest against the allocation of funds to athletics from the student government. They elected this vegetable mascot which is now embraced with pride as a symbol of speaking up against administrative decisions they disagreed with.

5. Whittier College Poets: While not a creature or a comical object, poets are a unique mascot. As far as I know, Whittier College is the only higher education institution that uses a literary figure as its sports mascot.

6. Delta State University Fighting Okra: Created as a joke, the Fighting Okra is now fully embraced by the university community. It's green, it's mean, and it's an okra!

7. Culver-Stockton College Wildcat: This might sound typical until you learn their wildcat is named "Wild Bill."

Those are just a few examples. There are a ton more out there, and it's a fun break to think about all the imaginative mascot choices!
