What are some must-haves for a college dorm?

Hey everyone, I'll be heading off to college next year and I'm really excited about the whole college dorm experience. However, I feel a bit overwhelmed thinking about all the things I might need to bring. Can anyone suggest the most essential items I should pack for my college dorm?

Hi there! Absolutely, moving into a dorm is a big transition and there are quite a few essentials you'll want to have on hand.

Firstly, bedding is a must. Most dorm beds are extra-long twins, so you'll need XL twin sheets. Don't forget a mattress pad for added comfort, a comforter, and pillows. A bedrest pillow or backrest can also be helpful for when you're studying or relaxing in bed.

For your desk, necessary items include a desk lamp, stationery supplies, and possibly a printer if you prefer not to use the school's printing resources (though this isn't a necessity). You might also want a bulletin board or whiteboard to help keep track of assignments and deadlines.

On the tech side, an extension cord or power strip is essential - dorm rooms often have limited outlets. You should also bring chargers for all your devices and possibly a small fan to keep air circulating.

Next is laundry supplies. A portable hamper or laundry bag is a must, as well as detergent. A drying rack could be handy if you have delicates.

When it comes to your closet, consider bringing a set of hangers, shoe organizer and under-bed storage bins for seasonal clothes or extra items. Remember, dorm closets are usually quite small, so space-saving techniques are key!

For personal care items, don't forget shower shoes (flip-flops work great), a shower caddy to tote your bath items from your room to the shower, towels, and toiletries.

Lastly, you'll want to bring some items to make your dorm room feel more like home. This could include pictures, decorations, a cozy throw blanket for your bed, or small rug. However, remember to check your college's policy on what you can stick on the walls, as some don't allow certain types of adhesive.

Remember to coordinate with your future roommate! You don't need two mini fridges or microwaves in the same dorm room. Best of luck with your move to college! It's such an exciting time and with some thoughtful planning, you'll have a well-stocked and comfortable room.
