In Need of Info: LGBT Friendly Colleges in Each State

Hey guys, I'm currently trying to create a college list and I want to make sure I have a good number of schools that are known for being LGBT friendly. I'm looking all across the country, so the more diverse the locations, the better. Could you guys suggest some of the most LGBT supportive colleges from different states?

Sure, diversity is a great factor to consider when it comes to college selection. I'm glad you're seeking LGBT friendly schools. Here are a few suggestions from different states:

1. California: University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) - UCLA is one of the top-ranked universities in the country for LGBTQ students. They are well-known for their respectful and vibrant LGBTQ community.

2. New York: New York University (NYU) - NYU boasts a comprehensive response to LGBT issues and has numerous LGBT groups for students to join.

3. Massachusetts: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - The Rainbow Lounge at MIT is a designated safe space for everyone in the LGBTQ community.

4. Washington: University of Washington - The University of Washington holds a yearly Lavender Graduation to celebrate its LGBTQ students and recognize their achievements and contributions.

5. Pennsylvania: University of Pennsylvania (Penn) - Penn has strong resources for LGBT students such as the LGBT Center with an extensive library on sexuality and gender identity.

6. Illinois: Northwestern University - Northwestern is remarkable in its support for the LGBT community and has "gender-open" housing where students aren't segregated by gender.

7. Georgia: Emory University - Emory's Office of LGBT Life provides mentorship, counseling and various events for LGBT students.

8. Texas: University of Texas, Austin (UT Austin) - UT Austin has an LGBT Equity area in their Division of Diversity and Community Engagement.

Remember, though, just because a school is not on this list doesn't mean it isn't LGBT-friendly. Research is key when finding the best place for you. Look at the resources they offer for LGBTQ+ students, check out their policies, and consider reaching out to the University's LGBTQ+ organizations to hear students' perspectives.
