Most popular college women's sport?

Sports have always been a big part of my life and I'm definitely planning to continue in college. I'm just curious, though, what's the most popular women's sport in college? Do certain sports get more funding or support?

Across many United States colleges, the most popular women's sports, in terms of the number of participating athletes, are often basketball, soccer, and volleyball. In fact, as per the NCAA, track & field and basketball were reported to have the highest number of participating athletes across divisions.

This popularity can have some implications for funding and support. Historically, football often receives the most funding in colleges due to its high revenue potential. However, Title IX legislation ensures that women's sports receive equitable treatment and opportunities. This means colleges must provide equal opportunities to men and women in athletics, including the provision of scholarships, equal treatment of athletes, and equal quality of facilities and overall support.

In terms of support from the student body and community, which sports get the most attention can vary greatly by region and specific college. For example, at some schools in regions where soccer is hugely popular, their women's soccer team might command the same level of interest as men's football at a different institution.

In the end, the sport you choose to pursue in college should align with your passion and skills rather than its popularity or funding. After all, college athletics is also about personal growth, commitment, and enjoying your sport.
