Iconic College Colors - Can they influence college choice?

Hello, I am a junior in high school starting to look at colleges. This might seem a little silly, but can the colors of the college influence my choice? I know it's not the most important factor, but some colleges have really cool and iconic color schemes. Has anyone else felt the same?

Absolutely, you're not alone in this! The colors of a college can certainly play a role in your decision, albeit a minor one. It's common for students to feel a connection towards a certain color scheme, especially if the colors resonate with them personally. Perhaps they remind you of a favorite sports team or they're your favorite colors since childhood.

Additionally, some colleges are known for their iconic colors and it becomes part of their branding, where the colors hold a certain weight or symbolic value. University of Texas, for example, is known for its burnt orange, which is instantly recognizable and evokes a sense of school spirit and unity among students.

In some cases, having favorite gear, clothing, or accessories which match with the college's colors can add to the enthusiasm you have for a particular school. It could increase your pride and connection to a school once you are there.

However, it should be noted that while colors can contribute to a positive emotional connection towards a college, they should not be a determining factor. Academics, campus culture, extracurricular opportunities, financial factors are all more substantial aspects to be considered when making your choice.

Remember, no question is silly when it comes to college selection. It's a major decision and even small factors like color schemes can contribute to your overall comfort and satisfaction at a school. As long as you're also considering the important factors such as program offerings, location, and fit, there shouldn't be any harm in considering color in your college choice!
