Practical Things Students Should Bring to College?

This might seem like a basic question, but what are some of the most practical items to bring to college? Trying to keep it minimal and only bring what I'll genuinely use on a daily basis. What are your absolute must-haves?

There are several practical things every college student should consider to make their dorm life more comfortable and their college experience smoother. Here are several must-haves to put on your list:

1. Laptop or Tablet: Most of your work will be done digitally, so having a reliable device is crucial. Make sure it's equipped with necessary software like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or their equivalents.

2. Desk Organizer: A tidy workspace can significantly help maintain focus. In a limited space like a dorm room, having a spot for your pens, pencils, sticky notes, etc., will save you considerable time and effort.

3. Dorm Room Essentials: This includes bedding (don't forget that many college dorm beds are Twin XL), towels, a laundry hamper, and shower shoes/flip flops. A small fan can also help, especially if your dorm does not have air conditioning.

4. Basic Kitchenware: A mini-fridge, a microwave, some dishes, bowls, silverware, and glasses can be useful when you want a late-night snack or a quick breakfast. BONUS: consider a water filter pitcher for constant access to clean drinking water.

5. Portable Charger: It's a simple item but can be a lifesaver during long days on college campuses when you are using your electronics frequently.

6. Planner/Calendar: Even if you're using digital tools to keep track of your assignments and deadlines, having a physical planner or wall calendar may be beneficial for visual organizing and time management.

7. Health and Hygiene Items: Don't forget your toiletries, a first-aid kit, and any necessary prescription medications. A small stock of common OTC medicines (like pain relievers, cold medicine, etc.) can also come in handy.

Remember, everyone's needs will vary depending on their personal lifestyle, so the best way to determine what you need is to think about your daily routine and the items you use most often. Starting college is a big change, but with the right preparation, it can be a smooth transition. Best of luck with your preparations!
