Which college campuses are the most secure?

Hey everyone! I really value personal safety and I've been thinking about this a lot while looking at colleges. Can anyone provide some insight into which campuses are considered the most secure or safest?

It's completely understandable that security and safety are high on your priority list. All universities and colleges prioritize the welfare of their students and have mechanisms in place to ensure their security. While it's difficult to rank campuses on safety due to numerous factors, here's some information based on Clery Act reports and student surveys.

1. Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, consistently ranks high in safety due to its strict honor code and 24/7 security force.

2. University of California, Irvine has been highlighted in many campus safety rankings for its low crime rates.

3. Rutgers University reports the presence of more than 90 emergency "blue light" phones across its campus and a university police department that offers services such as security escorts.

4. University of Pennsylvania has a Special Services Department that provides walking escorts, mobile escorts, and a Penn transit service available to students 24/7.

Remember, while this list comprises universities that have been cited for their safety, many other aspects contribute to a school's overall security, such as location and community involvement. Key things to look for when assessing the safety of a campus include: the presence of campus police, emergency call stations ("blue lights"), shuttle/escort services, safety apps, and robust security policies. It might also be worth checking the annual security reports published by each school under the Clery Act.

Finally, keep in mind that safety is not only about what's happening on campus but also about how comfortable you feel in that environment. Therefore, visiting the campus (if possible) or talking to current students can offer valuable insights.
