What are the top college sports for female athletes?

Anyone know which sports are really popular for female athletes in college? I'm looking to continue my athletics in college and I'm trying to see what options there are. Thanks in advance!

There are a number of sports options for female athletes in college, and the popularity can vary greatly depending on the individual institution. However, here are some of the top sports for female athletes at the collegiate level:

1. Basketball: Basketball is one of the most popular sports for female athletes, with opportunities available at the Division I, II, and III levels, as well as NAIA schools and junior colleges.

2. Soccer: With the increasing popularity of soccer in the U.S., it's no surprise that women's college soccer is also gaining traction. There are quite a number of schools with well-established women's soccer programs.

3. Volleyball: Particularly in the fall, women's volleyball is a high-participation sport. Both beach and indoor volleyball are offered at many colleges.

4. Track and Field/Cross Country: As in high school, track and field along with cross country are very popular sports at the collegiate level. Colleges often offer scholarships in these sports due to the large number of events and participants.

5. Softball: Softball is another traditional sport that has maintained its popularity at the college level.

6. Rowing: A sport that's growing in popularity, rowing (or crew as it's sometimes called) provides a lot of opportunities for female athletes, particularly those who are tall.

7. Lacrosse: Lacrosse is another sport that is specifically gaining traction at the college level for female athletes. While its popularity tends to be regional, more colleges nationwide are adding lacrosse to their athletic roster.

8. Tennis: Tennis continues to be a popular choice as well, with opportunities at many colleges and universities.

Remember, many colleges also have club and intramural sports if you want to continue athletics without the commitment of a varsity team. It would be recommended for you to research different schools' athletic programs to find the right fit for you.
