What are some of the most original college mascots?

Silly question here, but for some reason, college mascots are really catching my attention lately. What are some of the most original or unique college mascots you guys know?

Great question! There are certainly some unconventional mascots out there, each with its own unique charm and story. Let's look at a few:

- The Banana Slug: This might be one of the most famous odd mascots. The University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz), has the Banana Slug as their official mascot. Named after the yellow, slimy mollusk found in the campus's surrounding forest, it's become a favorite and iconic symbol of the school.

- The Fighting Pickle: Interestingly, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts's mascot is the Fighting Pickle. While it might not seem very intimidating, it is unquestionably unique!

- The Fighting Okra: Another school that has taken a different route when choosing its mascot is the Delta State University in Mississippi which chose the Fighting Okra. This mascot adds a humorous and regional flavor to their athletic events.

- The Purple Cow: This is the mascot for Williams College in Massachusetts. It's unexpected, but definitely original!

- The Artichoke: Another rather unusual mascot is Artie the Fighting Artichoke, at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. It was selected by students in the 1970s as a symbol of defiance and protest!

These mascots definitely stand out for their novelty and originality. It just goes to show that uniqueness can be found in all aspects of college culture, including our beloved mascots!
