What Do College Students Overlook When Packing for Dorms?

I'm stoked about heading to college, but packing is overwhelming. A bit scared I might leave something important behind. Anyone have suggestions on the most overlooked items when moving to a dorm?

Great question and an absolutely valid concern. It's super commonplace to overlook not-so-obvious but practical items when packing for a campus dorm. Here are some essentials that usually miss the list:

1. First Aid Kit: A kit with basics like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, pain-relievers, thermometer, and any personal medication is crucial. It's handy for minor health inconveniences and comes in very useful when needed.

2. Extension Cords and Power Strips: With all the gadgets we use daily, chances are you'll need more outlets than your dorm room offers. Ensure the power strips have surge protectors to safeguard your electronics.

3. Cleaning Supplies: A mini-vacuum, disinfecting wipes, dustbin, and laundry detergent are often overlooked but necessary. Keeping your space clean is crucial for both health and comfort.

4. Extra Bedding: It's wise to bring an extra set of bedsheets and pillowcases. It's helpful when you can't do laundry or when an accidental spill occurs.

5. Quiet Games: A deck of cards or board games can help break the ice with your roommates and dorm neighbors. Making social connections can greatly enhance your college experience.

6. Kitchen Essentials: If your dorm allows, a mini-fridge, microwave, or coffee maker can be lifesavers. Also, a couple of bowls, mugs, plates, and utensils for those late-night study snacks or early morning quick breakfasts.

7. Shower Shoes and Caddy: If you're using a communal bath, these are a must to maintain hygiene.

8. Office Supplies: Stapler, tape, scissors, punch, etc., are assumed to be unnecessary in this digital age, but they do come handy at times.

Remember, it's okay if you forget something. Many items can be purchased on or near campus, or shipped from home if needed. Happy packing!
