What are some underrated college majors that are worth considering?

Hey everyone, I'm currently planning my college applications and I'm really confused about what major to choose. I've gone through the common ones like Business, Computer Science, etc. But do you guys have any suggestions for underrated majors that you think deserve more recognition? I'm open to all suggestions irrespective of the area of interest. Thanks in advance!

I'm glad you're exploring lesser-known college majors before deciding! Here's a few that are definitely worth considering:

1. Environmental Science/Ecology: If you enjoy subjects related to the natural world and climate, plus you want to be a part of a field that's becoming increasingly important due to climate change, this could be a good fit. Careers in this field tend to be stable and rewarding, and degree programs often include hands-on fieldwork, which can be a nice change from classroom learning.

2. Urban Studies/Planning: As our population grows and urbanizes, there's an increasing need for professionals who understand how cities work and how they can be improved. This is a really interdisciplinary major, with ties to subjects like sociology, architecture, economics, and public policy.

3. Human Resources: A major in Human Resources can lead to a stable career path in a variety of industries, as pretty much every company has a HR department. Classes often involve understanding workplace law, improving interpersonal skills, and studying organizational behavior.

4. Health Informatics: This is a fast-growing field that combines healthcare, IT, and management. It's all about using technology to make healthcare more efficient and effective. Given the urgent need for improvements in our healthcare system, it's a field that's likely to offer good job prospects.

5. Cybersecurity: With the increase in data breaches, there's a growing demand for professionals who can protect sensitive information. It's a booming industry with a promising career outlook.

6. Food Science and Technology: If you have a passion for food and science, this major could be a good fit. Roles in this field can range from creating new food products, improving food safety and quality, to making food processes more efficient and sustainable.

Think about what your interests are and where you'd like to end up in your career, and remember, it's not uncommon for students to change their majors, so it's perfectly okay to swap later on if you find a passion in a different area. Good luck with your college applications!
