LGBT Friendly Christian Colleges

Currently in my junior year of high school, and I'm gay and Christian. It's very important for me to find a university that embraces both aspects of my identity. Do any of you possibly know some Christian colleges that are openly supportive of the LGBT+ community? Appreciate any suggestions!

Sure, finding a college where you feel comfortable expressing all aspects of your identity is crucial. While Christian colleges have varied stances on LGBT issues, there are plenty of institutions that strive to be inclusive and accepting.

For instance, Baylor University, a Baptist-affiliated institution in Texas, has an on-campus organization named "Gamma Alpha Upsilon" (GAY in Greek) dedicated to promoting understanding and acceptance of all students, regardless of sexual orientation, within the context of Christian faith.

Eckerd College, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, has been recognized for its welcoming climate for LGBTQ+ students. They've established an Office of Diversity and Inclusion and offer gender-inclusive housing.

Pepperdine University, affiliated with the Churches of Christ, has also made efforts to create a welcoming environment. While it's had a complex history with LGBTQ+ inclusivity, they have the "Crossroads" initiative, which supports discussions about sexuality and spirituality.

Chapman University (Disciples of Christ) is another institution that's often recognized for being LGBTQ-friendly. It has an active LGBTQ+ community, and their Fish Interfaith Center supports all students in their spiritual journeys.

One approach you might consider is searching for schools that belong to denominations with more liberal stances on sexuality, such as the United Church of Christ or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Remember, a school's Christian affiliation doesn't automatically dictate its stance on LGBTQ+ issues. Research these colleges thoroughly, perhaps reach out to their resources centers, and decide for yourself if they align with your needs. Best of luck in your college search!
