Looking for HBCUs in New York – what are my options?

I've always been drawn to the empowering environment of HBCUs, and I'm trying to find out if New York has any that I might apply to. Does anyone know of HBCUs located in New York, and what they're known for academically or socially?

New York does not have any historically Black colleges or universities (HBCUs), as they are primarily located in the Southern and Eastern US. However, if you're set on staying in New York, consider institutions with strong commitments to diversity and programs that support the educational success of Black students.

For instance, CUNY and SUNY schools are known for having exceptionally diverse student bodies. If your heart is set on an HBCU experience specifically, though, you might want to expand your search to nearby states.

In Pennsylvania, there's Cheyney University and Lincoln University. New Jersey offers Bloomfield College, which, while not officially an HBCU, is recognized for its diverse student body and commitment to empowering all students.

Each of these schools has unique strengths, so research their specific academic programs and campus culture to find which one truly fits best with your interests. Remember, the right environment, whether at an HBCU or another institution committed to diversity and inclusion, is crucial to having empowering and enriching college experience.

Good luck with your search!
